Team ROBUS Win Through to National Final
The F1 in schools event was held at Fife College last week and the teams competing came from all over Scotland. Teams were judged on the engineering of their car, their pit display, a verbal presentation and their car's speed. We scored highly on engineering, portofolio and team identity and won the award for Best Sponsorship and Marketing. Craig is Recognised for Outstanding Achievement
In recognition of his achievements in swimming in 2013 Craig McLean was awarded the Dunfermline & West Fife Sports Council Junior Sports Personality "Asda, St Leonard's Trophy". Handball Team Win National Title at Ravenscraig
After qualifying for the nationals at Napier University last year, our S1/2 handball team arrived at Ravenscraig Sports Centre on Friday confident that they could bring the national trophy back to Deans.

Deans continues to maintain 1st position in the West Lothian Secondary School Sports League. Another 1st position at the West Lothian Badminton Championships last week increased our lead.

Gold Award for Senior Wind Band
Congratulations to Deans Community High School Senior Wind Band who achieved a Gold Award for their performance at the Scottish Concert Band Festival. This was a regional event for bands from Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Lothians. The Senior Wind Band will now go on and perform at the nationwide event in the Perth Concert Hall this Spring.

Deans Win West Lothian Dance Competition
Deans performed extremely well at the West Lothian Dance Championships - winning three out of four categories.
All eleven schools in West Lothian participated and dancers performed in front of a packed theatre and three highly respected judges.

Deans Dominate WL Basketball Finals
Congratulations to the Senior Boys Basketball Team who put in an outstanding shift to win the West Lothian Schools Basketball Finals.Having won the previous two qualification rounds, Deans were first up in the Semi Finals against St Kent's. Construction Challenge Winners
Ten students took part in the annual Construction Challenge Competition at West Lothian College. Deans students were up against students from Armadale and West Calder. Senior Boys Basketball Team Win Round 2
The Senior Boys Basketball team worked very well together to win all their Round 2 games against Inveralmond, The James Young, St Margaret's and Broxburn. Good play from Calum Drury and George Darrosa along with some inside help from Morgan Landels enabled the Deans squad to scrape a one point win over rivals St Margaret's whilst comfortably defeating all the other teams through their defensive effort. Higher Chemistry Students Enjoy Visit to Shin Etsu
The Higher Chemistry Class visited Shin Etsu recently to take a very enjoyable and educational tour of the water treatment area of the facility. Senior Basketball Team Win on Their Debut
The twelve boys in the S5/S6 basketball team – which includes six S3/S4 players – won the opening round of games in the West Lothian Schools S5/S6 League defeating James Young, Inveralmond and Broxburn. The only defeat of the first round for the young team was to St Margaret’s in a game where they did not take care of the basketball well enough and missed too many easy chances. Scottish Parliament Visit
Intermediate 2 and Higher Modern Studies students attended the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh after a (very wet) political walking tour. Calum is Scotland's Youth Fly-Fishing Champion
Calum Stephen lifted the title of Scottish Youth Fly-fishing Champion on Sunday the 1 September 2013. This open competition is held annually and the top 16 anglers make up the Scottish Youth Team to compete in International competitions the following year. Exam Results - Best Year Yet!
I am extremely proud of the fantastic SQA examination results achieved by our students this year. It is the best set of external examination results ever at the school and all students and staff are to be congratulated upon a magnificent outcome.

Advice on University from Former Students!
Two former students returned to Deans in the final week of term to offer advice to Senior Phase Science students on life at University. Mark Lang, who is studying Mechanical Engineering at Strathclyde University and Cory Dunnigan, studying Medicine at Edinburgh University, popped into the Science Department to offer their advice and experience. Successful Start to the Season for Pipe Band
The last 3 weekends have seen the members of the West Lothian Schools Novice Juvenile Pipe Band take part in the West Lothian Highland Games, The British Pipe Band Championships and Shotts Highland Games. Meghan Picks Up Award at City Chambers
Meghan Shortel of 4D3 was a finalist in the Inspire - Aspire values competition. Meghan attended the award ceremony in Glasgow City Chambers and received a bronze award out of around 25, 000 entries! Students enjoyed a training session with Sam Allan, ISKA Kickboxing World Champion. They learned more about the training and techniques required. Visit to Queens Medical Research Institute
Students enjoyed a visit to Queen's Medical Research Institute - Centre for Regenerative Medicine. The students saw first hand the research aimed at developing new treatments for major diseases including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, degenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease, and liver failure. 160 students are taking part in our first ever Sportathon event from 8pm - 8am tonight. Students are participating in a wide range of activities they choose from basketball, gymnastics, swimming, zumba, high jump and lots more!
