Our Annual Badminton event took place on Monday with an invitation to our parents to join staff versus the students. English Premier League Tour
Over the Easter weekend 22 students and three staff members took part in the English Premier League Tour.The weekend comprised of stadium tours, training, a football tournament and an English Premier League match.The students had the opportunity to receive training from the Manchester City coaches and had stadium tours at the home of Manchester United, Old Trafford, and also the Stadium of Light home of Sunderland

Visual Merchandising Stars
The S5/6 Retailing class put their new found knowledge and skills in Visual Merchandising into practice when they were given a range of retail plinths, Body Shop products and a design brief to create an attractive display for either a Valentines or Easter display. Visit to Queens Medical Research Institute
Students enjoyed a visit to Queen's Medical Research Institute - Centre for Regenerative Medicine. Sportathon a Big Hit with Students and Staff
160 students are taking part in our first ever Sportathon event from 8pm - 8am tonight. Students are participating in a wide range of activities they choose from basketball, gymnastics, swimming, zumba, high jump and lots more! S3 Hospitality Students Tackle Enterprise Challenge
Over fifty S3 Hospitality students were joined by Royal Bank of Scotland staff to tackle an “Enterprise Challenge” as part of the Moneysense for Schools programme.
Each team appointed a Project Manager, Finance Officer, Catering Consultant and Marketing Executive to form a catering company then competed against each other to win a contract to supply food, drinks and entertainment for a dinner dance for 100 people.

Show Racism the Red Card
S2 students successfully participated in Show Racism the Red Card workshops. These activities were a mixture of practical team building exercises and classroom based work. The workshops were taken by two ex-footballers Michael Weir (Hibs) and Gary Mackay (Hearts), who achieved a great rapport with the students and were very impressed with the young people at Deans. Great Performance at Handball Tournament
Nine of our budding Handball players from S4 attended a National Tournament at Ravenscraig. The players have picked up the sport very quickly over the past few weeks with coaching from Alan Stokes (regional development officer). F1 In Schools Success at Regional Competition!
Congratulations to team Promethium in their recent achievements at the regional F1 in School finals! The team which was made up of three senior students (Marc Stockwell S6, Ryan Blacklaws S6 and Gavin Newton S4) amazingly only started the team in October last year. The S5/6 Intermediate 2 Engineering class recently enjoyed visited Ebara Pumps in Livingston for an insight into how the skills they have been developing in class are applied in Industry. The boys were treated to a full tour of the site from Ebara site Manager, Mr Craig Peachey. Tristan Cooks His Way to Young Chef District Final
S3 Hospitality student, Tristan Steinemann, came up trumps as joint winner of the Rotary Young Chef 2013 Central Area Final with his healthy Scottish menu of Smoked mackerel pate, fillet of venison in an Arran mustard sauce with a haggis, turnip and potato timbale and a raspberry and crème fraiche roulade.
Howden Park Bistro’s Head Chef judged this event and praised the exceptionally high standard of cooking produced in two hours

After impressing the Scottish Youth Parliament with their story board for an anti knife film our S2 students went on to produce the film. It can be viewed on the WE-CTV website (link below) and voting is open NOW.
If the Deans entry can qualify in the top 5 then it will progress to the national final.

Sporting Success for Deans
Students participated in a multi-sport event at Inveralmond CHS on Friday afternoon. Olympic judo silver medallist Gemma Gibbons was there to support the students, as well as Clyde, the 2014 Commonwealth Games mascot.

S1 Badminton Club visit Scottish Internationals
The S1 Badminton Club students had an action-packed trip to the new Emirates Arena in Glasgow for the Scottish International Badminton Championships. They had a 2-hour badminton workout in the fabulous Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome (surrounded by cyclists) followed by an hour of watching competitive play from the top ranking players in the world. Royal Regiment Musicians Coach Wind Band
The music department enjoyed a visit from the royal regiment. The day was extremely successful for the wind band with side by side coaching as the soldiers put our students through their musical paces. Rotary Young Chef Competition 2013
With only 4 marks dividing the 1st and 4th places, winners of the Rotary Young Chef club Livingston round were Cameron Fleming (S5 Broxburn Academy) and Tristan Steinemann (S3 Deans CHS). Shannon Rahman (S6 Deans CHS) and Bobby Fairley (S5 Broxburn Academy) were close runners-up. Tristan and Cameron will now compete against the Whitburn Rotary club winners. Good luck to them both!

Touch of Hope Children's Home - Uganda
Today 2.3 Million Ugandan children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS, one of the highest figures in the world. Many of these children are now living on the streets of Kampala or in the city slums where living conditions are almost uninhabitable and they are lonely, scared, hungry and often abused. Record results for Deans Community High School
Deans Community High School students achieved their best ever results in the recent SQA examinations. 85% of S4 students achieved 5 or more qualifications at General level or above, and 41% achieved 5 or more qualifications at Credit level or above.
