Police - School Link Officer
Introducing Paul Corner our School Campus/Link Officer.
I am now a member of school staff as well as being a Police Officer. I work from an office shared with Lisa Goodman (Pupil Support Manager) and Kenny Dyson (PTC Support for Learning) on the first floor of the new Deans Community High School building.
Prior to working as School Campus Officer I worked in a variety of roles within the police service including Community Policing, Response Officer and Divisional Support Unit. I bring a wealth of life experience to the job, much of it gained during my 19 year career in the police service.
My main activities are to support staff, students and members of the community to ensure we have a safe and trouble free environment in school as well as travelling to and from school. This allows everyone to concentrate on the big job of learning. I also deliver information, guidance and strategies to the students in relation to Personal Safety, Internet Safety, Knife Crime, Drugs and Anti-Social Behaviour.
I undertake patrols around the school and community to minimise risks to students and the community alike. If necessary, I deal with any incidents or other issues that are brought to my attention.
I regularly meet with representatives from partner agencies as well as my Community Police Colleagues, sharing information with them. In relation to the wider community, we can target ongoing problems or issues together.
Within the school I contribute to multi agency case conferences and meetings as a representative of the police service. I also work to promote and raise awareness of social responsibilities and community safety among young people.
I am delighted to be part of the school community and will continue to keep you updated as to my role. In the meantime if you need to contact me call the school on 01506 282155.
