Transition/New Students

Moving on from Primary

We aim to make the transition from primary to secondary school as smooth as possible.  Our induction and liaison programmes ensure the best possible start for all students.

P7 students spend one day in November and two days in June at Deans Community High School.  They enjoy taster sessions in all subject areas meeting fellow students and staff.

Staff from primary and secondary schools work in collaboration to ensure a seamless progression with a focus on continuing to build on prior knowledge and developing skills.  There is a comprehensive exchange of appropriate information with opportunities for parents to meet with staff.

We also hold a number of information evenings for both students and parents.

Applications during the school session

Secondary schools deal with all applications for S1 – S6 during the current session.  Application for admission to secondary schools forms may be obtained from the schools or West Lothian Authority.  Completed forms should be returned directly to your preferred secondary school.  The information will be passed to the Senior Management Team member responsible for enrolment and a date for the student to commence school.  Records will be requested from the previous school.

Applications outwith the school session (July and August)

The Pupil Placement Section at West Lothian Council deals with all applications outwith the school session.  Application forms should be returned directly to Pupil Placement Section.
